While many may say using business cards will soon be obsolete, those who use business cards can say that a business card makes a lasting impression on a prospective client or business partner like no other.  A business card is more than just a piece of paper with your name and number on it. It is an extension of your brand, your company or yourself. A well-designed business card is guaranteed to be a conversational piece and attention grabber for new clients or influencers. Here are some tips for designing a successful business card :

Establish a good business card size

The standard business card size is 3.5 by 2 inches. This is the average size of most credit cards meaning that your business card can find a home in wallets and purses easily. However, more unusual business card sizes have been trending such as perfect squares or mini cards (2.75 by 1.125 in). This is a good way to stand out from the crowd but be aware, if the cards are inconvenient they may get lost or thrown out.

Include all key Information

Begin your design (or provide your designer) with all the Key information upfront. Some vital information that should be on a business card includes Name, Number and email address. Job title, office location, company website or social media profiles can also be added onto the card if desired.

Print on BOTH sides of the card

While printing on one side might be cheaper, it is always better to spend a little more and print on both sides of the card. The front side of your business card is a great place to showcase the company logo or portfolio pieces; this is your attention grabber.

Add custom elements your card

Aside from having a custom designed card, business cards that feature elements such as foil stamping, embossing, rounded corners, spot gloss or a colored seam can make a greater impression on the individual receiving your card.

Don’t include personal social media profiles

UNLESS your business card is for your own persons, all information on the card should lead back to your business or company. Including your personal Facebook or Twitter onto the card could harm potential business relationships, especially if the content being posted is not appropriate for business relations.

Don’t include borders in your design

A bordered design might look nice on screen but in the production, house a border on a card can create serious problems. If any of the cards are not cut correctly, a bordered edge will become skewed and very noticeable.

And most importantly:
